New Sven Ratzke EP – Diva Diva’s

The great Sven Ratzke is touring worldwide with his theatre show ‘Diva Diva’s’. Until now there was no cd available for this tour, so he decided to record an EP with some of the tunes from the show. That EP is ready now and available on Challenge Records, check it out by clicking on the link!

Additional to that there were two beautiful clips recorded in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and those are on youtube. Both these songs are on the EP too. Enjoy!

Ellen ten Damme – album Berlin!

banner-ellen-ten-damme-962x240

In may this year I recorded a new album with Ellen ten Damme, called ‘Berlin’. It was recorded live at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and it features a great band with horns and strings. The tracklist has some old and some new material on it, all fabulously sung by Ellen.

In the meantime the album was mixed and mastered and is now ready to be released, which will be done september 26th. BUT: you can pre-order the cd now already!! Just go to this website, click on the album and order it there. There’s a tracklist available too.

And for those interested, the band was Robin Berlijn, Aram Kersbergen, Thijs Cuppen and me, ten string-players of Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and the hornsection: Tini Thomsen, Werner Jansen, Robbert Scherpenisse, Jan Harshagen and Matthias Konrad.

World War One Project

This year it is exactly 100 years ago that Franz Ferdinand was killed in Sarajevo and World War I started. Reason for Konrad Koselleck to do a memorial/reflectional concert about this war, about the effects of it later and the influence still today. With great storytelling by Vincent Bijlo, beautiful singing by the multi-talented Ellen ten Damme and kick-ass grooves and war-soundscapes by the Big Band you’ll be reminded of this war and think about todays political events.

The project was already performed at memorial places like Gütersloh (D) and Diksmuide (B), but the coming months it’ll be in the Netherlands too. For more info and the dates click here.

Crowdfunding Traeben

As most of you know I’m a member of the Dutch/Danish quartet Traeben, with which we try to combine improvised Jazz music with elements from the Rock genre. We recently recorded our third album that we’re going to release in September in LantarenVenster in Rotterdam. But to complete the new album we need financial support, and therefore we started a crowdfunding campagne at Voordekunst.nl.

On this (Dutch) website you can read all about this project, and there’s a video in which we shorty explain how it works. Also in this video you can hear some of the new music already. So if you like what we’re doing, this is your chance to help us with releasing a great cd in September! Go to the website, click on ‘Steun dit project’, and with every donation (even €10,-) you will support us greatly. At the bottom you’ll find the link, thank you for supporting us and we also hope to see you September 19th in LantarenVenster!

VOORDEKUNST

‘Caldo’

That was really amazing – what an incredible player and guy, and what a great time we had with Joey Calderazzo! The three concerts in Wageningen, Amsterdam and Warsaw were a great experience, the whole trio was burning! Thank you all for coming and thanks for the great responds we got on all three concerts, it was really something..

Now from one thing into another – Traeben will be performing at the Copenhagen International Jazz Festival coming week. We’ll be playing four gigs over there, if you’re around please come by and check us out. We’ll be playing repertoire of our still-to-release new album and some old stuff of course. That’ll be fun too! Check the dates and venues here.

And for everybody who wasn’t in Warsaw: here are two songs in one video from the concert over there (‘Meaning of the Blues’ and ‘Mighty Sword’). Enjoy!

Tour with Joey Calderazzo

I’m very excited to announce that I’ll be doing a small tour with the great Joey Calderazzo this summer! The bass-player Jasper Somsen was in contact with his management, and he asked me to join the trio and do a couple of gigs in July. We’ll be starting the 3rd of July at Jazz in Wageningen, to continue the next day at the Bimhuis and then we’ll fly to Warsaw to play at the Warsaw Jazz Festival.

Joey Calderazzo has made name as keyboard player and composer of two of the most important tenor saxophonists of the past 40 years, Michael Brecker and Branford Marsalis. As a solo pianist and leader of his own trio he has released albums on different labels including Blue Note. As the main musical collaborator of Branford Marsalis he worked on successful projects including the electric band Buckshot LeFonque and the acoustic duo album Songs of Mirth and Melancholy.

If you’re excited too, please come and check us out! That’s gonna be some nice music..

Ellen ten Damme @ the Concertgebouw

A very special project is taking place this week. Ellen ten Damme wanted to record a cd with German repertoire for a long time, and decided to do that in a very special way. She put together her ‘Magpie-Orchestra’, which is her band, with a horn section and a group of strings added, and she’s going to record her cd live at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. We’ve been rehearsing for a while now, and the arrangements (mainly by Konrad Koselleck and Rob Horsting) are starting to sound really good! It is so nice to hear all the different sounds and sound-combinations in an orchestra like this, along with the varied repertoire (Kurt Weil, Marlène Dietrich, Nina Hagen, Rihanna) – I think it’s gonna be a great night and a very special cd..
