North Sea Jazz 2016

I’m very happy to announce that I’ll be playing the North Sea Festival again, and it’s going to be something really special! First of all the whole concert will be a tribute to the late and great Boy Edgar, who had his own fabulous bigband a couple of decades ago in the Netherlands. His music and his way of working were very special, so it’s a great challenge to honour him in this way with the Konrad Koselleck Big Band.

Secondary there will be some former band member joining us in this concert, out of which one is JOHN ENGELS! John is of course known for all the great artists he played with (f.e. the legendary Chet Baker in Tokio concert), but also for being an incredible drummer still now a days. And the good thing for me is that we get to play together! Boy Edgar did recordings with two drummers in the band (as did the Clarke-Boland band) and we’ll have that too: John and me! So you must come and check it out, ‘cause we’ll be killing it!

100 years Boy Edgar at the Bimhuis

That’s gonna be a special concert! To celebrate the birth date of Boy Edgar a hundred years ago (the great dutch Big Band leader) we’ll play a tribute to the band with the Konrad Koselleck Big Band and the David Kweksilber Band. Edgar was very much know for his ability to create space in his arrangements for improvisation, something Koselleck and Kweksilber are known for too.

On top of that some of the original band members are going to join us, among whom the very very great John Engels! He was the drummer in the Edgar Big Band, and although everybody knows John for his combo playing – you should hear him kick ass in this band! So this one is a definate ‘be there or be irreversibly square’ (November 15th):
