Koning van Katoren

koning_van_katorenThis week a new Dutch movie had its premiere, called Koning van Katoren. The movie is based on a book by Jan Terlouw, that became very popular after it’s first release, and now there is also this movie with Mingus Dagelet and Abbey Hoes.

The score of the film is written by Bart Westerlaken, who chose to use different spheres for different parts of the movie. And one of them was bigband-style. So a couple of weeks ago we went into the studio with Bart and the Konrad Koselleck Bigband to record a part of the filmscore, and since the 1st of December the results are to be heard in the movietheaters all over Holland. The music turned out great, from energy bigband swing to cinematic effects – it’s all there. There’s even a scene accompanied by a drumsolo..

Vrije Geluiden

This sunday Traeben will be featured in the VPRO tv-program ‘Vrije Geluiden‘. Our album PUSH drew the attention of the program, and they asked us to be in it. We were very happy to do the recordings this week at the Bimhuis, and we hope it’s gonna be a great show. We’ll be playing one tune (Top Dog) and Jens and Olaf will answer some questions as personifications of Dutch vs Danish…

Sunday October 14, 10:30 Ned 1.

KKBB recording ‘live at the Bimhuis’ CD

…featuring:

the Band!

10 september 2012, 20.30 uur, BIMHuis, Amsterdam

(Sroll down for the English version.)

September 10, 20.30 hrs
BIMHuis, Amsterdam

Tickets: €16 / €13

Werner Janssen, Katharina Thomsen, Alex Simu, Kees van Lier, Kees van Dooremalen: saxes, Charlie Biggs, Robbert Scherpenisse, Florian Sperzel, Gerard Kleijn: trumpets, Bastiaan Woltjer, Matthias Konrad, Bart Lust, Axel Schappert: trombones, Kai von Rosenberg: guitar, Charly Zastrau: piano, Reyer Zwart: bass, Haye Jellema: drums.

The Konrad Koselleck Big Band is something else. Time and again, band leader Koselleck finds adventurous combinations of jazz, cabaret, pop, rock, Latin and even classical music. This special edition, which will be recorded for a CD release, features the band’s soloists. They shine with improvisations in Koselleck’s original and remarkable arrangements and compositions.

‘Koselleck has a keen sense of atmosphere, he knows when to slow down or fire up the band… this ecstatic big band plays with phenomenal conviction’ (de Volkskrant).

Summer

It’s gonna be a busy summer this year! After the release of the new Træben-cd we played the release-tour throughout spring, and we got a lot of great reactions. Also the press picked it up, and we got some wonderful reviews in for example Bebop Spoken Here, Allaboutjazz.com and Draai Om Je Oren. Thank you all for supporting our music! This weekend you can hear us live in Luxembourg on a big jazz and blues festival throughout the city.

Another great show this summer is at the Parade, called La Ten Damme & Le Ratzke On The Rocks. Ellen ten Damme and Sven Ratzke put together a show especially for this year’s Parade, with a lot of glamour, vaudeville and sex&drugs&rock’nroll! It’ll be playing in all 4 city’s (Rotterdam, Den Haag, Utrecht and Amsterdam), come and check us out.

And last but not least: Mathilde Santing is gonne do one of the Robeco Zomerconcerten 2012 at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the 12th of august. She’ll be performing her Sinatra repertoire (with which she toured a while ago) accompanied by her jazz-quartet. That’s gonna be something..

I hope to see in one of these places!

Release and presentation Traeben album ‘PUSH’

Finally it’s there, the new Traeben album PUSH! After a great time of recording, mixing and mastering it’s all good: great tunes, fresh sound, super playing – well, you should check it out and hear it yourself. Hein van de Geyn did that, and these were his thoughts:

“Four men on a mission: to give the world real, honest, strong and beautiful music. Thank you gentlemen!”

So, there’s three things you can do:

– go to the Traeben website, there’s lots of information there, video’s, agenda. You can even subscribe to the newsletter. click here

– of course the cd is available on iTunes, with bonus tracks! click here

– come to the cd-presentation: we’ll play a nice concert at theater De Tobbe in Voorburg the 16th of March. All the pieces of the cd will be played, and of course the cd will be for sale there!

I hope to see you there, or at one of our other concerts, and let us know what you think of our music!!

Multitrack @ radio6

The dutch radiostation Radio6 started a very nice initiative, called De Multitrack. It’s like a chain-letter: one musician records something, Radio6 sends it to another one who adds one or two things, and so on and so on ’till it’s a full track.

I was invited to play to a nice basstrack of Clemens van der Feen, which is broadcasted this week. Now it will be send to others, and hopefully there will be an update every week. Check out the website and keep an eye on track 13, I’m very curious what will happen..

And to all of you: all the best for 2012!
